The client wanted to build a port and understand where the ships can pass.
Philsurv conducted a bathymetric survey for 421 ha, a topographic survey for 80 ha and a river cross section survey. The geodetic engineers compiled all the data and referenced the elevations to the mean sea level.
HOW IS IT USEFUL ?
• Study of wave heights, sudden changes in water depths, uncharted reefs, currents, tidal streams, seaweed and mobile beaches (sand drift)
• Avoid shelters fouling up with seaweed or silting up (shelter mouth facing the wrong direction) or just being inaccessible in rough weather (reefs too close to entrance channel)
• Correct design decisions upon project inception stage to ensure that the landing is easy to use and free of major maintenance problems under all conditions
